After a group of motorcycles surrounded a vehicle and forced it off a highway in West Vancouver, one man was arrested and could face criminal charges.

The West Vancouver Police Department (WVPD) announced today (June 4) that around 7:10 p.m. on May 30, West Vancouver police received several 911 calls about an altercation between a vehicle driver and a group of motorcycles.

Passersby who had been traveling in westbound lanes of Highway 1 near the Caulfield exit witnessed a group of about 15 motorcycles surrounding a vehicle.

The vehicle was allegedly boxed in by the motorcyclists and was forced off to the side of the highway.

Once the vehicle came to a stop, one of the motorcycle riders allegedly got off his motorcycle, walked to the driver’s door, pulled the driver out of the vehicle, and began to threaten him.

Before police arrived, the motorcycles were seen leaving northbound on Highway 99.

Squamish RCMP, who received descriptions of the suspects, located and stopped the group near Highway 99 and Valley Drive in Squamish.

Officers arrested one male suspect but he was later released at the WVPD headquarters with potential charges pending.

Anyone with information which may assist with this investigation is asked to call the WVPD at 604-925-7300 or Crime Stoppers, to remain anonymous, at 1-800-222-8477.
