Erratic winds create challenges in fighting B.C. wildfire near Savona
The Sabiston Creek wildfire near two major highways has grown to 100 hectares as of this writing.
The blaze is west of Savona near Highway 1 and Highway 97.
Savona is on the west end of Kamloops Lake about halfway between Kamloops and Cache Creek.
Highway 1 has been closed in both directions between Deadman-Vidette Road and Savona Access Road, according to the Drive B.C. website.
The fire broke out in the grasslands and is believed to have been human-caused.
"Ground crews will remain on site overnight and airtankers are continuing to provide support," the B.C. Wildfire Service tweeted. "Erratic and gusty winds are challenging suppression efforts."
Earlier this afternoon the wildfire was less than hectare in size.
