Hit-and-run by semi-truck in Burnaby leaves 71-year-old man dead

      Update (June 15): Burnaby RCMP identified the driver and have interviewed him as part of the investigation.

      An elderly man has died after a hit-and-run in Burnaby.

      Around 11:20 a.m. on June 6, Burnaby RCMP received a report of a vehicle colliding with a pedestrian on Marine Way near Boundary Road.

      The 71-year-old male pedestrian was declared dead at the scene. 

      Burnaby RCMP stated in a news release that according to witnesses, the man was not in a marked crosswalk when he was hit and that the vehicle that struck him temporarily stopped after the collision but then continued driving east along Marine Way.

      Investigators describe the vehicle as a semi-truck pulling a dark red shipping container.

      Anyone who has information about this vehicle or has dashcam footage from the area around the time of the collision is asked to contact Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999.
