Vancouver Canucks select Nils Hoglander in second-round of NHL draft

The Vancouver Canucks have never been shy about drafting and acquiring Swedish NHLers, and the team continued that trend on the second day of the NHL draft.

Nils Hoglander is a left-winger who played last season with Rogle BK of the Swedish Hockey League, scoring 14 points in 50 games (which doesn’t sound impressive but really is for an 18-year-old).

He’s listed as 5’9 and 185 lbs. by the website Elite Prospects, and has garnered praise for being an offensively talented and aggressive, even at that size. Many scouts and analysts actually had Hoglander going in the first-round, so it should be an encouraging pick for Canucks fans.

He also had a solid World Junior tournament for Team Sweden, putting up seven points in eight games.

Also, he’s got a great name and that can’t be overrated.
