Warning issued about aggressive black bear on Burnaby Mountain

The RCMP has encouraged anyone using the trails on Burnaby Mountain to contact them immediately if they see a black bear.

"Expect to see a police presence in the area of the Trans Canada Trail, Ridgeview, Burnwood and Gnome's Home Trail," Burnaby Mounties tweeted.

This comes in the wake of a report of an "aggressive" black bear that went after two people having a picnic in a park near the SFU campus.

It occurred around 1 p.m. on June 24 after the bear started going through their backpacks.

When the people tried to scare it away, it charged, causing minor injuries to a woman's calf.

When black bears behave like this, it suggests that they've lost their fear of people.
