North Vancouver RCMP arrest distraught man after standoff at courthouse

      A standoff between a man and police in North Vancouver today (July 10) ended peacefully.

      North Vancouver RCMP officers were dealing with a distraught man in the 100 block of East 23rd Avenue.

      According to North Shore News, a man was allegedly holding a knife to his throat on the North Vancouver Provincial Courthouse steps.

      At 12:26 p.m., North Vancouver RCMP announced on social media that the situation was resolved and the man was arrested. His identity has not been released.

      The buildings in the surrounding area were in lockdown, including Harry Jerome, Centennial Theatre, Memorial and Mickey McDougall recreation centres (which later reopened after 1 p.m.).

      Officers are remaining in the area as the investigation continues.
