A single-vehicle collision took place in Surrey early this morning, resulting in a power outage.

Around 1:17 a.m. on July 12, RCMP responded to a report of a serious collision in the 6300 block of 128th Street in Surrey.

A white BMW SUV had veered off the road and hit a utility pole.

Surrey RCMP stated in a news release that “life-altering injuries” are involved in this collision.

Two occupants were taken to hospital. The 20-year-old male driver has been released from hospital but the 17-year-old female passenger is being treated for serious injuries.

Police closed 128th Street in both directions between 62nd and 64th avenues as they continued to investigate. Speed is believed to be a factor in the collision, according to early indications.

As a result of the crash, BC Hydro had to respond to a blackout for about 900 residences in the area this morning.

Anyone with information about this incident or who has dashcam footage is asked to contact Surrey RCMP or Crimestoppers.
