A neighbourhood in West Vancouver discovered extensive graffiti on vehicles and other surfaces earlier this week.

On July 9, the West Vancouver Police Department (WVPD) received a report about graffiti in the 1300 block of Camridge Road.

When police arrived at the location, they found a vehicle that was extensively damaged by red and blue spray paint.

Officers also found more graffiti (also made with red and blue spray paint) on numerous surfaces throughout the area, including on light posts, mailboxes, and vehicles.

More racist graffiti was found on the side of a second vehicle, and another vehicle was covered in graffiti from one end to the other on both sides.

Investigators believe the graffiti was done sometime between 4 p.m. on July 8 and 4:30 a.m. on July 9. The total damage is estimated to be worth over $7,000.

The WVPD stated in a news release issued today (July 12) that they are treating this incident as a hate crime and have notified the B.C. Hate Crimes Team about it.

“This is especially concerning to us given the racist language that was used,” WVPD Cst. Kevin Goodmurphy stated.

Anyone with information is asked to contact WVPD at 604-925-7300 or, to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
