Fatal collision involving dump truck closes Highway 1 near Revelstoke, B.C.

      Highway 1 has been closed near Revelstoke due to a multivehicle collision that involved a dump truck this morning.

      Around 11:30 a.m. today (July 17), Revelstoke RCMP and Emergency Services responded to a report about a fatal collision on Highway 1 near Canyon Hot Springs, about 33 kilometres east of Revestoke.

      Amid heavy rain, a commercial dump truck had lost control and collided with several vehicles. The number of other vehicles was not specified.

      The dump truck driver was ejected from his vehicle and died due to the crash.

      Revelstoke RCMP stated in a news release that no other fatalities were reported and injuries to other vehicle occupants were unclear.

      Highway 1 was closed in both directions as a police investigation with the B.C. Coroners Service into the crash continues.

      According to Drive B.C., Highway 1 is closed from the east boundary of Mount Revelstoke National Park to the west boundary of Glacier National Park. The estimated reopening time is around 5 p.m. For updates, visit the Drive B.C. website.
