Updated: 81-year-old Vancouver man missing from West End has been located

      Update: The Vancouver Police Department announced at 8:30 p.m. that Michael Elson has been located and is safe.

      Vancouver police are seeking to locate an elderly man who has not been seen for over 24 hours since he left his West End home yesterday.

      Michael Elson, who is 81 years old, was last seen leaving his home near Burrard and Burnaby streets around 5 p.m. on July 16, the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) stated in a news release today (July 17).

      He was scheduled to take a plane flight this morning. However, he was reported missing after a family member arrived to take him to the airport and discovered he was not at his home.

      According to the VPD, Elson is forgetful and may have dementia.

      He often spends his time at coffee shops and grocery stores in the West End.

      He is described as a while male who is about 178 centimetres (five-feet, 10-inches) tall with a slim build and balding grey hair. He sometimes wears glasses.

      Anyone who sees him is asked to call 911 immediately.
