Three men involved in a kidnapping and holding a victim in Burnaby earlier this month, which entailed one male suspect falling several storeys during a police rescue effort, have been charged.

After 10 p.m. on July 4, officers went to a residence in the 4900 block of Sanders Street in Burnaby where investigators believed a kidnapping victim was held.

When police entered the suite on the 11th floor, three men tried to escape over the balcony. Two men were arrested on lower floors while one man who fell to the ground was hospitalized with serious injuries.

Today (July 23), Burnaby RCMP announced that charges have been approved for three men—32-year-old Abdullah Abdullahi, 23-year-old Abdulkadir Handule, and 36-year-old Obinna Njoku—who are facing charges of kidnapping and forcible confinement.

RCMP is not releasing any further information as the Independent Investigations Office of B.C. is continuing their investigation into whether police action or inaction contributed to the man’s injuries.
