A second sexual assault has been reported near SFU on Burnaby Mountain this month.

A female victim reported that around 4:30 a.m. on July 26, a man allegedly approached her at Highland Court and University Crescent at UniverCity.

He is alleged to have assaulted her before he attempted to sexually assault her.

After the sexual assault attempt, he left the area seconds later. The direction he went in remains unknown.

The suspect is described as a black male who is appears to be in his late 20s, is 183 centimetres (six-feet) tall, has a medium build, and has a short, bushy curly beard with a moustache.

He was wearing a black hoodie, black sweat pants, and a black baseball cap with a New York Yankees logo on it.

An investigation into the incident remains ongoing.

Anyone who was in the area at the time or has dashcam video is asked to contact Burnaby RCMP or, for anonymous reports, Crimestoppers.

Burnaby RCMP stated that thus far, there isn’t anything that suggests a connection to an assault that took place on a trail near SFU on July 14.

At that time, a 19-year-old woman reported that a man tried to grab her hand as she walked on a trail north of University Drive and West Campus Road at SFU in the direction of Burnaby Mountain Park. She managed to get away from him.

On July 17, Burnaby RCMP released a composite sketch of the male suspect.

Other recent reports of sexual assaults have included one on BCIT's Burnaby campus, one in the front year of a residence in the Newton area of Surrey, and another in Surrey in Newton Athletic Park, as well as a voyeurism incident at a Burnaby Walmart and an indecent exposure incident on a North Vancouver trail.
