A father from Victoria, B.C., who visited Vancouver with his daughter, is wanted on Canada-wide warrants for child abduction.

On July 8, the Victoria Police Department (VPD) received a report about a child custody issue.

Brent Erskine had taken his four-year-old daughter, Samantha, to Vancouver on June 30 as part of a vacation agreement between Brent and Agustina Wulandari, who is Samantha’s mother. Erskine and Wulandari are no longer together.

Samantha was supposed to be returned to Victoria and her mother one week later.

However, after communication between Erskine and Wulandari changed, Wulandari became concerned and contacted police.

After Victoria police launched an investigation, criminal charges against Erskine for abduction and disobeying a court order were approved on July 24.

Investigators learned that Erskine traveled with Samantha to Jakarta, Indonesia.

After efforts from the family and police, Erskine dropped off Samantha with maternal family members.

Erskine subsequently traveled to Singapore to obtain a visa but his current whereabouts remain unknown.

Investigators are working with international partners to locate him and are seeking to have Samantha returned to Canada safely.

Erksine is being urged to turn himself in at a Canadian embassy. The Georgia Straight is contacting the VPD for further information.
