Manhattan U.S. Attorney Geoffrey S. Berman issued a statement this morning that a famous billionaire charged with the sex trafficking of minors has died in his cell "of an apparent suicide".

Jeffrey Epstein—a former associate of President Donald Trump former president Bill Clinton and Prince Andrew—had earlier attempted to die by suicide.

After the last attempt, he was placed on suicide watch, but this was lifted before his death.

"Today's events are disburbing," Berman said, "and we are deeply aware of their potential to present yet another hurdle to giving Epstein's many victims their day in Court.

"To those brave young women who have already come forward and to the many others who have yet to do so, let me reiterate that we remain committed to standing for you, and our investigation of the conduct charged in the indictment—which includes a conspiracy count—remains ongoing."

Despite this assurance, the news is being greeted with a great deal of suspicion over social media.

Below are just a few of the many messages being tweeted in response to Epstein's death.
