Man with machete wounded after being shot by RCMP in Surrey

      After an early-morning incident involving man with a machete being shot by police in the Whalley area of Surrey, a B.C. police watchdog is investigating the case.

      Around 4:17 a.m. on August 14, Surrey RCMP received a call about man with a machete who was chasing another male down an alley in the 10600 block of 135A Street.

      According to a Surrey RCMP news release, police located the man and, after interacting with him, officers fired their guns. The man was hit by the gunfire and was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

      No one else was injured.

      RCMP notified the Independent Investigations Office of B.C., who have attended the scene and will investigate the police-involved shooting.

      Meanwhile, Surrey RCMP are continuing their investigation into the original incident and are seeking to speak with any witnesses.
