A local man who had tools stolen from his vehicle managed to get them back—with the help of Craigslist.

Between 11 p.m. on August 13 and 8 a.m. on August 14, a vehicle was broken into in East Vancouver and several tools, valued at $1,000, were stolen from it.

After the owner of the tools recognized his items being sold in a posting on Craigslist, he notified police about the listing.

Consequently, officers posed as potential buyers to contact the alleged thief and to arrange a meeting. When the suspect showed up with the stolen goods to sell them, plainclothes officers arrested him.

As a result, Braidy Holt, 39, has been charged with possession of stolen property, possession of break-in instruments, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Also, as the owner had written on the tools, they were easily identified and returned to the owner.

However, police are also reminding vehicle owners and users not to leave anything visible, even items that may not seem valuable, in a parked vehicle in order to deter auto theft.
