This past weekend, a body was found on a riverbank in Delta, but the death is not being considered suspicious.

The Delta Police Department (DPD) announced today (August 19) that officers attended the 400 block of Audley Road on August 16 after a body was discovered around 10:30 a.m. on the shoreline of the Fraser River.

A coroner arrived at the scene around 12:45 p.m.

According to the DPD, an initial assessment deemed that the death did not appear to be suspicious after an examination of the body.

The DPD did not indicate if the individual was female or male but has confirmed the identity of the deceased individual (which has not been released) and has contacted Surrey RCMP in order to notify next of kin.

The B.C. Coroners Service is investigating the death and has no further information to provide.
