A Vancouver massage provider has been arrested and charged after an alleged sexual assault took place at a local home last week.

According to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD), a woman in her 30s reported to police that she had been sexually assaulted by a masseur who had come to her home in Downtown Vancouver to provide massage.

Police arrested 33-year-old Alexander Varfolomeev on August 20 for the alleged offence.

Investigators believe Varfolomeev was self-employed and used an app called Soothe to book clients before visiting clients at their homes to provide his services.

Varfolomeev was released on bail but a court order prohibits him from providing massage or physical therapy to the public.
