A woman has been arrested and charged for murder after her husband was discovered dead at his home on the Sunshine Coast.

Prior to 9 p.m. on August 21, Sunshine Coast RCMP received a call from neighbours of 79-year-old Max Fischer, who was found dead in his residence in the 10900 block of Sunshine Coast Highway.

As emergency responders found suspicious injuries on Fischer’s body, his death was deemed a homicide.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT), who took over the case, believed it was an isolated incident without any threat to the public.

Then on August 22, Fischer’s 54-year-old wife, Karin Fischer, was charged with second-degree murder for his death.

Both Max and Karin Fischer are German citizens.

Karin Fischer was scheduled to appear in B.C. Provincial Court today (August 23).

The investigation, including evidence gathering, is continuing on and IHIT investigators are remaining in Sechelt.

Anyone with information is asked to call the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-4448 or, to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
