After a submerged vehicle was recovered from a lake in southeast British Columbia, RCMP made a grim discovery.

After 9:30 a.m. on August 21, Revelstoke RCMP received a call about a vehicle submerged in Griffin Lake, which is located about 27 kilometres (17 miles) west of Revelstoke.

The vehicle was located about three metres (10 feet) from the shoreline.

Residents guided RCMP to the location where officers saw a vehicle that appeared to have been submerged for a length of time.

On August 24, investigators, the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team, and a tow truck returned to the lake and pulled out an older-model Honda Accord from the water.

The body of an adult female was found inside the vehicle.

Investigators and the B.C. Coroners Service are working to confirm the woman’s identity.

B.C. RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Janelle Shoihet stated in a news release that initial indications suggest that her death did not involve criminality.

RCMP and the B.C. Coroners Service are not offering any further information about this case.
