Police are searching for a violent offender from Alberta who is thought to be in B.C.

A warrant issued in Alberta for 50-year-old Sheldon Hinton, who is wanted for aggravated assault, has been extended to British Columbia.

Investigators believe Hinton is somewhere in central Vancouver Island, and may have traveled to Nanaimo.

According to Nanaimo RCMP, Hinton has been trained as a boxer and has an extensive history of violence.

The Edmonton Journal, who stated that he is a former heavyweight boxer who had cofounded a boxing club in Edmonton, reported in November 2016 that he had pled guilty to domestic abuse charges related to two women in separate cases.

He is described by Nanaimo RCMP as a non-white bald male who is 191 centimetres (six-feet, three-inches) tall and weighs 113 kilograms (250 pounds).

Nanaimo RCMP stated that he should be considered violent and dangerous, and anyone who sees him should not approach him but instead call 911.

Anyone who would like to make an anonymous report can contact Nanaimo Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
