Liberal fundraising request relies on Stephen Harper's sales pitch for Andrew Scheer to push Obama-inspired message

I never thought I would see this.

One party's fundraising video is being used by its rival to raise money.

In a new fundraising email, the Liberal Party of Canada's subject bar simply said "Breaking: New Harper Video".

"The Conservatives don't like it when we point out that Andrew Scheer wants to take Canada back to the days of Stephen Harper," the email states. "Well don't take our word for it, just listen to Harper fundraising for Scheer in this new video."

Then there's a link to the video of Harper's endorsement of Scheer—and pitch for cash—that was posted on YouTube today.

Video: Watch an older Stephen Harper try to whip up support for his protegé, Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer.

"Donate now to choose forward with Justin Trudeau rather than going backwards under Stephen Harper," the Liberal email cheekily says. "Sorry, we meant Andrew Scheer."

The Liberals are using this term "Forward" with increasing frequency as the October election approaches.

Part of the reason is that the slogan "Forward" helped propel Barack Obama to reelection in the 2012 U.S. presidential campaign.

Video: "Forward: An Anthem for Obama's Second Term" was an inspiring video designed to boost turnout for the Democrats in the 2012 election.

The "Forward" slogan was also used by Vision Vancouver in its successful 2014 campaign to reelect Gregor Robertson as mayor.

Then two years later, the B.C. NDP started using the hashtag #BCNDPForward as it approached the last provincial election.

One of the hallmarks of the Obama "Forward" campaign was its emphasis on encouraging women and minorities to vote.

The bouncy video below is a prime example. It features plenty of Hispanics, Asian Americans, and young people, and even includes a shout-out to deaf people.

Crystal Lucas-Perry recorded "Take Us Forward" before the 2012 election to help the Obama campaign.
