While RCMP have been searching for a missing person while investigating an attempted murder in Williams Lake, officers recovered an unidentified body from a local river in the B.C. Central Interior.

On August 28, a fisherman reported that he had located a body in a river near Sheep Creek Bridge.

Williams Lake RCMP, search and rescue, and conservation officers attended the scene.

RCMP are reviewing all missing-person files and are working with the B.C. Coroners Service to identify the body.

“We are aware of the most recent missing person investigation and the charges that have been laid and we are exhausting all possibilities to determine if there is any connection with these investigations,” Williams Lake RCMP Insp. Jeff Pelley stated in a news release.

Williams Lake RCMP have been searching the river after a kidnapping and attempted murder at the Rudy Johnson Bridge on August 9.

On August 9, Jayson Gilbert was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder, with two further charges of kidnapping announced on August 16.

Also on August 16, a warrant was issued for the arrest of 23-year-old Michael Drynock of Deep Creek, who was also charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of kidnapping for the Rudy Johnson Bridge incident.

Meanwhile, police have been searching for Branton Regner, who has not been seen since the incident at Rudy Johnson Bridge.

He is described as a white male who is 180 centimetres (five-feet, 11-inches) tall and weighs 73 kilograms (160 pounds) with a slender build, blue eyes, short brown hair, and a fair complexion.
