A civilian oversight agency is examining a case of a missing woman from North Vancouver who was found dead in her residence after she had been reported missing.

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. (IIO) announced on September 6 that they were notified about the death of a missing person involving North Vancouver RCMP.

After a welfare check at a residence in North Vancouver, RCMP filed a missing person report on September 3.

On September 4, North Vancouver issued a missing-person alert, stating that they were searching for 45-year-old Elizabeth Joanna Napierala.

She had been last seen on September 2 in the Woodcroft Complex at 2004 Fullerton Avenue in North Vancouver. North Vancouver RCMP also stated that she has medical conditions that make her vulnerable being outside and also prone to falling down.

On September 5, RCMP reported to the IIO that the missing female had been located at her residence at 1:15 p.m.

Emergency Health Services declared the woman deceased.

The IIO has launched an investigation to determine if police action or inaction played a role in the death of the woman.
