After a lengthy investigation, a 35-year-old man has been arrested and charged in the suspicious death of a man in the Cloverdale area of Surrey last year.

In 2018, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) began an investigation into the death of 37-year-old Shawnn Cotter.

Surrey paramedics and RCMP had located a male in distress in the 17800 block of 64th Avenue in Surrey at 12:25 a.m. on January 7, 2018. He later died from his injuries.

IHIT announced today (September 9) that investigators arrested 35-year-old Steven Mueller on September 6, who has been charged with manslaughter in relation to Cotter’s death.

Mueller has been released on court-ordered conditions, and has additional court dates pending.

Investigators don’t believe there are any other outstanding suspects and the case isn’t believed to be connected to any gang conflicts or other violence.
