A burst water main beneath West Georgia Street has been repaired.

However, the two eastern lanes between Hornby and Howe streets in downtown Vancouver will remain closed  until mid-morning.

That's because a gaping hole in the pavement needs to be repaired.

A gusher of water started shooting up high in the sky last evening (September 23), creating a tremendous stir on social media.

According to the city, the pipe was installed in 1924.
