Here in Vancouver, the spirit of Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg loomed large over city hall.

Her name appeared on many signs, including the ones photographed above, as crowds gathered for today's climate strike.

Her latest excoriating comment to adults, "How Dare You", could be spotted in the crowd that gathered at Vancouver City Hall.

Just check out this Ben Nelms image, which was tweeted by CBC's Rafferty Baker.

Meanwhile in Toronto, the climate strikers at Queen's Park were chanting "Greta! Greta!"

This occurred even though the 16-year-old was more than 500 kilometres away away at the Montreal climate strike.

Thunberg is the founder of the #FridaysforFuture movement, in which students go on strike from classes.

Today in Montreal, she told reporters that young people should take it as a compliment that some adults are insulting her and others for their efforts to bring about radical change to the way energy is produced and used.

"I don't understand why grownups would choose to mock children and teenagers for just communicating and acting on the science when they could do something good instead," Thunberg said. "But I guess they must feel like their world view or their interests or whatever it is is threatened by us.

"That we should take as a compliment," she continued. "We are having so much impact that the people want to silence us. We've become too loud for people to handle."

Massive numbers of people showed up at Vancouver City Hall today before proceeding across the Cambie Bridge into downtown.
