Update: On Sunday (October 6) night, Emily Carr University of Art + Design announced that the school will remain closed on Monday and Tuesday (October 7 and 8).

A small fire on Saturday (October 5) morning has caused a relatively minor amount of problems at one of the city's public postsecondary institutions.

Nobody was hurt but Emily Carr University of Art + Design has been closed all weekend as it deals with water damage.

"The areas most impacted are the Research and Industry Office and Painting and Drawing studios on Level 4," the university said in a statement.

Restoration crews are on-site dealing with the damage.

The new $122-million campus opened in the fall of 2017.

University officials have promised to provide an update no later than 6 a.m. on Monday (October 7) about when the campus can reopen.

Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services officials contacted the Vancouver police about the fire, which was started following a break-in.
