A man has been charged after a murder took place in Vancouver’s West End last month.

After 8 p.m. on September 10, the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) responded to a call about an altercation between two males at 1125 Pendrell Street.

Officers arrived to find 23-year-old Kyle Vincent Gabriel injured. He was taken to hospital but later died. Gabriel’s death marked the city’s seventh homicide of 2019.

A 23-year-old Vancouver man, Yasin Rashid, was arrested the next day near Pendrell and Thurlow streets on unrelated charges and he has remained in custody since that time. The VPD alleged that Rashid assaulted a police officer and attempted to injure a police dog during the arrest.

Rashid was formally charged with second-degree murder today (October 11) and is scheduled to appear in Vancouver Provincial Court today.
