Stephen Chong had no history of criminal misconduct, which has left police wondering what might have led to the notary public's suspicious death late Friday (October 18) afternoon.

Chong, 58, was discovered inside his office on the second floor of 8260 Granville Avenue in Richmond.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is working with Richmond RCMP's serious crime unit to locate any witnesses in the neighbourhood.

Officers are also hoping to obtain video surveillance footage and have not divulged the cause of death. It's not considered random, however.

"Our investigators are working hard to determine motive," Sgt. Frank Chang said in an IHIT news release.

Anyone with information is being asked to call IHIT's information line at 1-877-551-4448 or email ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca

People can leave tips anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
