A prolific offender from Port Coquitlam who was arrested for break-and-enters in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows has been banned from Metro Vancouver.

On September 9, Ridge Meadows RCMP received a report about a break-and-enter at a residence in the 18900 block of 118B Avenue in Pitt Meadows.

After obtaining video surveillance and conducting inquiries in the neighbourhood, officers determined that the same suspect was involved in several break-and-enters in the area.

On September 27, RCMP arrested Kalman Hlavacs of Port Coquitlam, without incident, in Vancouver.

As the suspect was also known to police in several other jurisdictions for property-related offences, investigators connected Hlavacs to several files, dating back to July.

According to a Ridge Meadows RCMP news release issued on October 21, Hlavacs has been charged with one count of break and enter with intent to commit offence and two counts of failure to comply with probation.

On October 4, Hlavacs received 11 conditions, including one that prohibits him from being in the Greater Vancouver area unless he is attending a pre-scheduled court appearance and requires him to leave Greater Vancouver immediately after the proceedings.

More charges are expected to be laid. His next court appearance is scheduled at Port Coquitlam Provincial Court on November 18.

RCMP warned citizens on October 17 that the number of break-and-enters had been on the rise in Surrey over the past two months.

Meanwhile, the New Westminster Police Department announced on October 16 that a male suspect linked to several break-and-enters in New Westminster had been arrested.
