Fast-acting police were able to nab a suspect in Burnaby shortly after a bank robbery took place on Tuesday.

Before 2 p.m. on October 29, RCMP responded to a report about a robbery at a financial institution in the 4700 block of Kingsway in Burnaby.

A man had entered the bank, gave a note to the teller stating that it was a robbery, and left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

After RCMP broadcast a description of the suspect to police in the area, an officer spotted the man on a bicycle near Royal Oak and Gilpin Street about 45 minutes after the robbery occurred.

When the office tried to speak with the man, the suspect fled by cycling away along Deer Lake Parkway before police stopped him and took him into custody without incident.

A 40-year-old man from Chilliwack is facing a robbery charge. His identity has not been released.

RCMP also recently caught bank robbery suspects shortly after a man with a knife robbed a bank in Surrey on October 1, which prompted a lockdown at a local high-school, and an armed robbery took place in Chilliwack on October 17.
