Halloween proved to be a busy night for firefighters in Metro Vancouver as they battled a few fires across the city.

One blaze broke out at a West End high-rise in Vancouver on Halloween evening.

Around 6 p.m. on October 31, a three-alarm fire developed at a 28-storey building located at 1111 Beach Avenue, at Thurlow Street, near Sunset Beach.

When Vancouver firefighters arrived, heavy smoke and flames, which broke through windows, were coming out of a 16th floor studio suite.

Emergency social services assisted residents and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The fire took place not far from another three-alarm blaze that occurred on June 2 at 1275 Pacific Street, which was later determined to be caused by linseed oil-soaked rags igniting.

Meanwhile, firefighters battled a two-alarm fire that erupted around 3 a.m. this morning (November 1) in the 5000 block of Athlone Street in the Oakridge neighbourhood, according to Vancouver Fire Chief Darrell Reid.

Several other minor fires took place in the city, according to CBC News.

Meanwhile in Surrey's Guildford area, a three-alarm fire started around 11:30 p.m. last night (October 31) in a suite on the third floor of a three-storey apartment building on 150th Street near 105th Avenue.

Although the fire was contained to the suite, other units were damaged by smoke or water.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
