Canadian Coast Guard officials are hoping to dislodge a barge caught on a reef in the Strait of Georgia.

The Nana Provider, which is operated by Alaska Marine Lines, became stuck close to the shore of Quadra Island around 8 p.m. on Saturday (November 9).

At the time, people living on the island heard a huge scratching noise.

None of the six people onboard were injured.

Plans call for it to be removed from the area today.

According to the Canadian Coast Guard, the vessel is carrying empty containers and rail cars and there is no cargo in the hull.

There's also no sign of any pollution leaking into the waters off the island, which is in Georgia Strait near Campbell River.

Quadra Island is a popular sports-fishing location. In the past, Campbell River has billed itself as the "Salmon Capital of the World".
