The House intelligence committee's impeachment hearings have riveted the world.

Today, a much-anticipated witness, America's ambassador to the European Union, Gordon Sondland, testified.

And what he said has shocked many observers.

That's because he did not appear to spin his words to benefit President Donald Trump.

In fact, Sondland declared that there was a "quid pro quo" linking U.S. military aid to Ukraine in return for President Vologymyr Zelensky announcing investigations into the 2016 elections and a Ukrainian energy company Burisma.

Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden's son Hunter was on the board of Burisma.

"Through Mr. [Rudy] Giuliani, that's what we were led to believe were wanted," Sondland testified.

Below, you can see House intelligence committee chair Adam Schiff's cross-examination of Sondland following the ambassador's opening statement.
