A 24-year-old male is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, after a shooting took place in New Westminster over a week ago.

The New Westminster Police Department stated in a news release on November 25 that around 7:30 p.m. on November 17, New Westminster police responded to a report about gunfire in the 200 block of Osborne Avenue.

When police arrived, the suspect had already fled the area but one female adult was located with injuries. She was taken to hospital for treatment.

Investigators believed the shooting to be an isolated and targeted incident.

After investigation, New Westminster police identified a male suspect and, with the help of the Vancouver Police Department, arrested Carlos Monteith.

Monteith has been charged with attempted murder with a firearm, discharging a firearm with the intent to wound, possessing a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, and possessing a firearm while prohibited.

Monteith remains in custody until his next scheduled appearance in court on December 2.
