It was a scene out of Smokey and the Bandit yesterday in the Tri-Cities.

Fortunately, there were no serious injuries, but a multi-vehicle collision left the roadway in a mess and sent four people, including a police officer, to hospital.

Shortly before 6 p.m., a Coquitlam RCMP officer was rushing to respond to a call with the lights flashing and the siren sounding.

At the intersection of Lougheed Highway and Westwood Street, the Mountie crashed into another vehicle.

That caused a chain reaction, with three other vehicles being struck.

The RCMP stated in a news release that there's no evidence of any distracted driving.

"To ensure a proper thorough investigation for all parties, the Criminal Collision Investigation Team and the Independent Investigations Office was called out to take charge of the investigation. Everyone is cooperating with the police."

Anyone with dash-cam footage is being asked to call the RCMP at 604-945-1550.
