Two teenagers have been arrested and one is facing charges after a threat was made to a Surrey high school last month.

On November 14, Elgin Park Secondary School at 13484 24th Avenue in Surrey reported receiving a threat by telephone, prompting the school to undergo a hold-and-secure emergency procedure.

Surrey RCMP, integrated police services, and Surrey Fire Services responded to investigate.

After an investigation, police arrested two 15-year-old youths. Due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, their names are not being released.

One youth was charged with public mischief and has been released with a promise to appear in court.

The second youth is participating in extrajudicial measures in lieu of charges.

“Not only do these types of threats cause significant and unwarranted concern for families, they also divert emergency services away from where they may be needed elsewhere in the city,” Surrey RCMP youth unit Sgt. David Fouche stated in a news release.

Anyone who has information about this incident is asked to call the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or, to make an anonymous report, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
