Update: Nanaimo RCMP announced on December 11 that Robert Gillies has been located and is safe.
A 57-year-old with mobility issues and a medical condition has gone missing on Vancouver Island.
Shortly before 8 p.m. on December 9, Nanaimo RCMP received a report that Robert Gillies had not returned to his residence in the North Nanaimo area.
He had left his supportive housing earlier in the day and was last seen around 10:30 a.m. at a coffee shop in Departure Bay. His failure to return has caused concern for his well-being among staff at his residence.
Gillies is described as being 178 centimetres (five-feet, 10-inches) tall and weighs 77 kilograms (170 pounds) with blond hair. He had been last seen wearing a black jean jacket and blue jeans.
He has mobility issues, including a noticeable limp. Due to a medical condition, he has some problems with memory.
Also, he is new to Nanaimo and is unfamiliar with the area.
Anyone who sees him or knows of his whereabouts is asked to contact Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
