While some suspects have tried to get away from police using public transit or the bus, a man wanted on several outstanding warrants in Metro Vancouver tried to escape from the long arm of the law—on a skateboard.

On December 11, Ridge Meadows RCMP officers were in the 11800 block of Laity Street in Maple Ridge when they spotted a man known to police as he was leaving a convenience store.

Multiple warrants from both Maple Ridge and Coquitlam had been issued for him, including possession of stolen property, theft under $5,000, breaking and entering, trespassing at night, carrying a concealed weapon, breach of undertaking or recognizance.

When police identified themselves to him, the male suspect tried to evade arrest by entering oncoming traffic on a skateboard.

Several officers became involved and apprehended him Dustin William Randall Evans, a 30-year-old man of no fixed address.

When he appeared in provincial court in Port Coquitlam on December 12, he pled guilty to the charges.

He will remain in custody until May 2020.
