West Vancouver police have released few details about a Christmas Day tragedy on Cypress Bowl Road.

A male cyclist in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene this afternoon after a collision with a vehicle.

"There are no further details at this time as the investigation is ongoing," police stated over Twitter. "The road is now open to traffic."

CTV News has identified the cyclist as Ivan Young, a veteran rider who went up Cypress Mountain 100 times last year.

"Ivan was fueled by his passion for cycling yet he was humble in nature," the statement from his friends read. "He was typically the first and last to complete a climb because after finishing, he would head back down to shepherd the last riders up safely, starting up a conversation to distract them from the pain they were going through."

He was described in the statement as always being foused on safety, as well as a husband, loving father of two, friend, gifted pianist, and active member of his church.

Ivan Young died doing what he loved: cycling on Cypress Bowl Road.
