The Gaglardi family has entered into an agreement to buy Grouse Mountain Resort from CM (Canada) Asset Management Co. Ltd.

A news release dated January 2, 2020, said the acquisition by Northland Properties Corporation is expected to be finalized sometime in January. Financial terms of the deal have not been released.

Vancouver-based Northland Properties is wholly owned by the Gaglardi family and is the parent company of such well-known local and national business chains as Denny's Restaurants. Moxie's Grill & Bar, Chop Steakhouses, and the Sutton Place Hotels. The company also owns the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League, the Revelstoke Mountain Resort, and the Revelstoke-based Selkirk Tangiers Heli Skiing.

The release described CM (Canada) as a "Vancouver-based private-equity investment firm". It characterized the North Shore's Grouse Mountain as the biggest tourist attraction in the Lower Mainland, with 1.3 million visitors every year. The mountain offers skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and various other recreational and educational experiences all year.

“With our strong family and company roots in Vancouver BC, we are excited with the opportunity to make this acquisition,” Tom Gaglardi, Northland president and CEO, said in the release. “We look forward to working closely with the existing team and leadership group, as well the community to ensure we maintain and evolve the iconic Grouse Mountain experience for all of our visitors.”

CM acquired Grouse Mountain Resort in 2017 from Vancouver's McLaughlin family, which controlled the property for 40 years.
