Canada has regained its standing as having the best junior hockey players in the world.

This came after Akil Thomas found the net with less than four minutes left in the under-20 tournament in the Czech Republic.

Thomas, who's been drafted by the Los Angeles Kings, accomplished this with a backhand shot over goalie Amir Miftakhov.

The 4-3 victory over Russia gave Canada its 18th gold medal in the annual World Junior Hockey tournament.

The Canadians were down 3-1 in the third period before goals by Connor McMichael and Barrett Hayton tied the match.
