Whistler RCMP issued a warning today (January 6) to parents and children after a male driver allegedly approached a boy with suspicious offers yesterday.

Whistler RCMP stated that around 5:20 p.m. on January 5, they received a report that a nine-year-old male child had been standing near a bus stop at the intersection of Balsam Way and Lorimer Road in Whistler.

An unknown male in a blue vehicle stopped and told the boy that he had candy in the back of his vehicle and said that he could drive the boy anywhere that he wanted to go.

The boy told the male “no” and walked away.

The male departed in the vehicle in the direction of Highway 99.

The man is described as a 50 to 60 year old male with shaggy grey hair who was driving a blue sedan-type vehicle.

Whistler RCMP are asking parents to speak to their children about refusing to accept a ride or any other offers from strangers.

Anyone who witnessed this incident or are aware of other similar incidents is asked to immediately contact Whistler RCMP at 604-932-3044 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
