Surrey RCMP investigate shooting on January 9 following recent seizures of firearms and drugs

      Following several firearms being seized during traffic stops in Surrey over the past month, Surrey RCMP are also investigating a shooting that took place on Thursday.

      Around 5:30 p.m. on January 9, RCMP received a report about gunfire between two vehicles near 96th Avenue and 148th Street in Surrey.

      The vehicles in question were described as a white Ford Expedition type and a white Lexus or Infinity type vehicles.

      Both were being driven at high speed and were last seen heading north on 148th Street.

      Officers located several shell casings in the area but have not received any reports about injuries or damage to property.

      This incident follows a shooting in Burnaby and two other recent shootings in Surrey.

      A shooting occurred near 85th Avenue and 167th Street in the Fleetwood area on December 27, but no injuries were reported.

      Then another one took place in the Morgan Creek neighbourhood on January 3, which left one male victim suffering from a gunshot wound.

      On January 5, an 18-year-old male was injured in a drive-by shooting in Burnaby.

      Meanwhile over the past month, Surrey RCMP have seized four firearms.

      On January 6, when officers conducted a traffic stop just after 9 p.m. near the intersection of 104th Avenue and 146th Street in Guildford, a 29-year-old male passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

      When pursuing police managed to apprehend him, they discovered he was carrying a loaded .40 caliber pistol. He was arrested for possession of a restricted firearm and was taken into custody for an outstanding warrant of being unlawfully at large.

      Last month during a traffic stop near 184A Street and 58th Avenue on December 13, a vehicle did not stop for police but officers managed to get the license plate and vehicle description.

      Then on December 18, officers spotted the vehicle in the 18600 block of Fraser Highway.

      When police blocked the vehicle while it was parked, the driver tried to flee on foot but officers chased after him.

      After he was arrested, officers found he had three firearms, stolen property, and suspected fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine. He was taken into custody as the investigation continued on.
