After a body was found in Maple Ridge on Saturday, police are asking the public for any information that could help with the investigation.

At 1:21 p.m. on January 11, Ridge Meadows RCMP responded to a report about a body found in a rural area near the 24500 block of Lougheed Highway in Maple Ridge.

As the circumstances of the body and area were considered suspicious, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) stated on social media on January 12 that it was deployed for the investigation.

“At this time, the name of the victim is not yet known and investigators are working hard to confirm the identity,” IHIT Det. Lara Jansen stated in a news release. “Though the area is rural, investigators believe that it does get used frequently by pedestrians so we are asking anyone who has been in that area to contact IHIT.”

No further details have been released and IHIT stated that there isn't any media availability for this case.

Anyone with information is asked to contact IHIT on their information line at 1-877-551-4448 or by email. To remain anonymous, please contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
