After schools across Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley closed yesterday due to snowfall, most reopened for classes to be held today (January 16).

School districts in Vancouver, Richmond, Burnaby, Coquitlam, Langley, Surrey, New Westminster, Delta, Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, and more announced that all elementary and secondary schools are open today.

As there remain some exceptions, visit school websites to double-check or for updates if weather conditions change.

Almost all major universities and colleges also reopened, including UBC, SFU (including its campuses in Vancouver, Burnaby, and Surrey), BCIT, Capilano University, Langara College, Kwantlen College, Emily Carr College of Art and Design, and more.

Exceptions include the University of Fraser Valley, which will provide an update at 10:30 a.m.

All schools are reminding students, staff, and faculty to factor in extra travel time due to possible delays during commutes.

Meanwhile, the B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure is reminding motorists in Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, and Vancouver Island to take precautions for winter driving conditions.

Winter tire regulations are in effect and tires should have an M+S symbol (mountain/snowflake or mud and snow) on them.

TransLink services are operating but may be slower than usual. For updates, visit the TransLink webpage for alerts about bus, Seabus, SkyTrain, West Coast Express, HandyDart, and other routes.
