After a violent robbery took place at a café in Squamish several years ago, a male suspect has been sentenced to prison.

Squamish RCMP stated in a news release on January 15 that in the early morning on December 20, 2015, RCMP received a report about a robbery at Tim Hortons on Progress Way in Squamish.

Responding officers secured the scene with perishable evidence and provided assistance to a victim.

A suspect allegedly tied up the sole employee on the premises and stole approximately $9,000.

After further evidence was gathered during the investigation, the B.C. Prosecution Service approved charges against 32-year-old Christopher Morgado.

"This was a lengthy and complex investigation and because of the diligence of both the frontline officers who attended the initial scene and the investigators who saw through the entirety of the investigation, we now have a conviction on a violent crime that happened in our community," Sgt. Jeffrey Shore of the Sea to Sky General Investigation Section stated in a news release.

On January 10 of this year, Morgado pled guilty to breaking-and-entering and robbery.

He was sentenced to 27 months in jail and has a lifetime firearm prohibition.
