Several homes were evacuated this evening in Surrey after a blast occurred near 124th Street and Iona Place.

The RCMP says that an "emotionally elevated subject" has been safely taken into custody following the explosion.

This person was found after witnesses told investigators that they should focus their attention on a specific home in the area.

The Mounties are still in the neighbourhood seeking witnesses and possible closed-circuit video surveillance at the time of the explosion.

In addition, they're hoping that anyone with dash-cam video steps forward.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact the Surrey RCMP detachment at 604-599-0502. Alternatively, they can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

The blast occurred in a fairly heavily populated area of Surrey.
