After a strange incident in which a man jumped onto a vehicle in Maple Ridge, police have arrested a male suspect and are also warning citizens about footage circulating online.

Ridge Meadows RCMP stated today (January 27) that around 3:45 p.m. on January 25, police received several reports about a man jumping on the roof of a grey Mazda 3 near the intersection of 210th Street and Dewdney Trunk Road in Maple Ridge.

Police identified the female driver of the vehicle and male suspect, who are both known to each other.

RCMP arrested a 30-year-old man from Maple Ridge, who is known to police for assault and mischief.

He was scheduled to appear in provincial court in Port Coquitlam today. His name was not been released.

Due to video footage of the incident was spread on social media, police are cautioning those who view what has been shared online.

“This incident was shared on social media before police received the video evidence, which caused much speculation,” Ridge Meadows RCMP spokesperson Cst. Julie Klaussner stated in a news release. “We understand in this day and age the allure of social media but we want to remind the public that, these are real people. Please consider the perspective of the victim and the fact that what you share, or when you share, may have an impact on the investigational outcome. There is always more to the before, during, and after of an incident and not just a short video clip you see on social media.”
